Family Room Makeover-Week 3

Debi-Collinson-Add-Value-To-Your-Home

It’s Week 3 of the One Room Challenge. A huge thanks to Linda of Calling It Home for hosting this bi-annual challenge.  I shared in week 1 all the before photos of our family room and mentioned my plans. In a nutshell, I’m changing our home from a Persian Palace look to an Urban Country feel.  Last week I shared our progress to date – including the removal of the nasty “doo-dad” on the fireplace that has been haunting me since the day we moved in.

I feel like we’re the tortoise for this go around of the One Room Challenge.  It’s week 3 and we don’t have anything “done” yet be we’re making progress in many areas all at once.

The walls are getting a second coat.  You can see at the top of the picture the former gold color.  What a difference paint makes!

Final remnants of the “doo-dad”are being sanded.  Finally it’s gone!!!

Now patching the damage!!!  Check back next week to see what color we paint the fireplace!

I’m probably crazy but we’re also tackling the adjoining dining area. It’s hard to only work on the family room when you can see the dining area from the family room.  It will be great to see this dated faux accent wall painted over.

The accent wall will be some shade of green to co-ordinate with the pillows.  Come back next week to find out which green won!

My biggest dilemma right now is the light fixture or lack thereof. Whenever I find one that I like, it doesn’t co-ordinate with the kitchen and dining area which is visible from this room.

Our family room is progressing well.  We haven’t hit any major snags yet which is a good thing but in renovations, you are always waiting for that shoe to drop when WHAM, it hits you in the face and you need to quickly go to plan B. Keeping our fingers crossed…..

Add Value to Your Home with Debi Collinson I’m Debi Collinson. Designer. Stager. Real Estate Investor. In 2006, at the request of a realtor, I staged my very first home. Staging houses was just starting to become popular. I was very nervous staging my first house, but the sellers liked their newly redesigned home so much that they turned down an offer for full asking price. I went back to design school and have never looked back. Since 2006, I have been staging & styling spaces to make them look like they belong in a magazine page, and buying “fixer uppers” to fix up & either sell for a healthy profit or to rent them out.
