Master Bedroom & En-suite Makeover
In the fall of 2015, I joined 200 + Designers/Bloggers in the One Room Challenge hosted by Linda of Calling It Home where we have 6 weeks to transform a room of our choice from boring to stunning! I picked our Master Bedroom & En-suite because it was, quite frankly, dated, boring and I so desperately wanted a change. But at week 4, I ran into a major set-back with our popcorn ceiling which left me with no choice but to switch to another room for the remainder of the challenge. Was I discouraged? Yes! Defeated? No!!! I’m back in the spring of 2o16 and transforming our Master Bedroom again! BUT this time, I added our en-suite into the mix. Why you say? Why not???
It’s week 6 of the One Room Challenge – time for the big reveal! The moment we have all been waiting for….
First let’s look at what we started with:
It all started back in the fall of 2015 when I first took up the One Room Challenge and ran into the NASTY popcorn ceiling. This now almost-famous picture shows what we had to deal with and why I had to put this room on the back burner until now!
Here’s the before of the master bedroom. I did like the burgundy at one point but it was time to lighten up the room!
What a difference!
No more ugly popcorn ceiling! The sparkling chandelier replaced the bulky ceiling fan! Ceiling fans do NOT belong in Master Bedrooms!
We added wardrobes since we converted the closet into a shower!
AFTER: We replaced the door with a barn door to allow more space for the bathroom. We converted the bathroom from a single sink vanity to a double sink therefore more room is needed for two people getting ready at the same time.
And the after… The toilet is on the far left.
The double sinks replaced the former single vanity.
Ta da…. The former closet is now a modern shower with travertine on the shower walls and the washroom floor. The travertine floors are heated for that extra comfort in the morning!

Week 2: No More NASTY Popcorn Ceiling
Week 5: Adding the Glam
Welcome! I’m Debi Collinson. Designer. Stager. Real Estate Investor. In 2006, at the request of a realtor, I staged my very first home. Staging houses was just starting to become popular. I watched every staging show on HGTV that I could find. I was very nervous staging my first house, but the sellers liked their newly redesigned home so much that they turned down an offer for full asking price. I went back to design school and have never looked back. Since 2006, I have been staging & designing spaces to make them look like they belong in a magazine page, and buying “fixer uppers” to fix up & either sell for a healthy profit or to rent them out.
